Simplify any fraction to its lowest terms and see it as a mixed number, a decimal and a percentage.
Enter a whole-number numerator and denominator.
Simplify a fraction to its lowest terms and see it as a decimal, a percentage and a mixed number.
Type the numerator and denominator as whole numbers. The tool reduces the fraction and also shows the decimal, the percentage and a mixed number when relevant.
Divide the numerator and the denominator by their greatest common divisor
18/24 has a GCD of 6, so it simplifies to 3/4 = 0.75 = 75%.
The simplified fraction is the same value in the smallest whole numbers. The decimal and percent help you compare it with other fractions.
Typing a decimal in the numerator. Multiply both numbers by 10 or 100 first so they are whole.
Fractions turn up wherever a whole is cut into parts: a recipe in cups, a drill bit in sixty-fourths, a discount written as three-quarters, a share of an inheritance. This page reduces a fraction to its simplest form and immediately shows the same value as a decimal and a percentage, which is usually what you need in order to compare it with something else.
It is also the quickest way to check homework: type the numerator and denominator and see whether the simplified result matches yours. Improper fractions are handled too, so 27/6 comes back as 9/2 with a mixed number of 4 1/2 alongside.
Both numbers are divided by their greatest common divisor, the largest whole number that divides both exactly. The value does not change; only the writing gets smaller. The decimal is numerator ÷ denominator, and the percentage is that decimal multiplied by 100. When the numerator is larger than the denominator, the page also builds a mixed number: whole parts plus the remainder over the denominator.
Signs are handled separately: if exactly one of the two numbers is negative the result carries a minus sign, and a negative over a negative comes out positive.
Simplify 18/24.
A second case: 27/6 divides by 3 to give 9/2, which is 4.5 and 450%, with a mixed number of 4 1/2. The improper form is not wrong — it is simply harder to read at a glance.
| Fraction | Decimal | Percent | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1/8 | 0.125 | 12.5% | One eighth of a whole |
| 1/3 | 0.3333 | 33.33% | Repeats forever |
| 3/4 | 0.75 | 75% | The worked example |
| 5/4 | 1.25 | 125% | Improper, mixed 1 1/4 |
| 27/6 | 4.5 | 450% | Simplifies to 9/2 |
The decimal column is what a calculator or a spreadsheet will use; the percentage column is what a report will quote. Both come from the same division.
Yes. The sign is kept on the result.
A fraction with zero in the denominator is undefined, so the tool asks for another value.
3/4. The greatest common divisor is 6, and 18 ÷ 6 over 24 ÷ 6 gives 3/4, which is 0.75 or 75%.
9/2, which is 4.5 and 450%, with a mixed number of 4 1/2. The improper form and the mixed form describe the same value.
87.5%: 7 ÷ 8 = 0.875, multiplied by 100. The fraction is already in simplest form, since 7 and 8 share no divisor.
-18/24 simplifies to -3/4, with a decimal of -0.75. One negative sign in the pair is enough to make the value negative.
No. Division by zero has no value, so the page refuses the input and asks for a non-zero denominator.
