Estimate monthly payments, total repayment and interest on a fixed-rate loan. Zero-interest loans supported. Free estimate.
Estimate excludes fees and insurance. A zero interest rate is supported.
Estimate the monthly payment, total repayment and total interest on a fixed-rate loan. Zero-interest loans are supported.
Enter the loan amount, the annual interest rate and the length in years. A zero rate is allowed for interest-free loans. The table shows what happens to the balance each year.
Payment = L × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n), with monthly rate r and n monthly payments
A 10,000 loan at 6% over 5 years costs about 193.33 per month.
The headline is your estimated monthly payment. The table splits each year into principal paid and interest paid, so you can see that early payments are mostly interest.
Comparing loans by monthly payment alone. A longer term lowers the payment but increases the total interest, so always look at the total repayment as well.
Use this page for loans with a fixed rate and a fixed number of payments: a car loan, a personal loan, or a standard amortizing mortgage. Those products are designed around one number — the monthly payment — and this calculator derives it from the amount, rate and term, then shows where the money goes year by year.
It is the wrong tool for credit cards, which have no fixed end date and calc interest daily on a floating balance. For a card you are clearing with a chosen monthly payment, use the Credit Card Payoff Calculator. Variable-rate loans are also a poor fit beyond the current rate: run the calculation at several rates instead of trusting one guess. And if your real question is "how much may I borrow?", the answer lives in the Loan Affordability Calculator, which runs this maths in reverse.
Problem: a car loan of 20,000 at 5.9% for five years. What is the monthly payment?
Total repaid: 60 × 385.73 = about 23,143.60, so the interest is roughly 3,143.60 — about 16% of what you borrowed. A quick sanity check: the balance averages a little over 10,000 across the five years, and 5.9% a year on that ballpark times five years lands near 3,000, which matches.
The term is the lever people underestimate. Same loan, same rate, only the length changes:
| Term | Monthly payment |
|---|---|
| 2 years | 443.21 |
| 3 years | 304.22 |
| 4 years | 234.85 |
| 5 years | 193.33 |
| 6 years | 165.73 |
Halving the term does not double the payment — but it slashes interest dramatically, because the balance falls much faster.
No. Lender fees, insurance and taxes are not included, so check the official quote.
Usually yes, because the balance falls faster. This tool shows the standard schedule only.
About 249.95 per month. The calculator applies the standard amortisation formula with a monthly rate of 0.65% over 36 payments.
Yes. Enter 0 as the rate: the payment becomes simply the principal divided by the number of months, and the total interest is zero.
No, it prices the standard schedule. To estimate an overpayment, run it twice with different terms and compare the two total-interest figures.
Use the rate your lender provides for the payment schedule. APR bundles certain fees, so if you enter APR instead, treat the result as an estimate and keep the official schedule as the truth.
