Percentage ÷ 100 × number.
Use this percentage calculator to find a percentage of any number, such as 15% of 200, without doing the maths by hand. It is handy for tips, discounts, taxes, grades and quick estimates.
Type the percentage in the first box and the base number in the second, then press Calculate. Use plain numbers: write 7.5 rather than 7,5%.
Result = percentage ÷ 100 × number
15% of 200 = 15 ÷ 100 × 200 = 30.
The big figure is the part of the base number that the percentage represents. The line underneath repeats the sum in words so you can confirm that you entered what you meant.
Typing the percentage as a decimal (0.15) in a field that already expects 15. If your answer is 100 times too small, this is almost always the reason.
This is the right tool when you know a whole amount and want a slice of it: interest your deposit earns, the share of a bill a tax represents, how many marks a test section is worth, or the deposit a landlord asks for. It answers one specific question — X% of Y — quickly and without a spreadsheet.
Reach for a different tool when the question changes shape. If you want to know how much something rose or fell, the Percentage Change calculator compares two values over time. If two numbers differ but people argue in "points", open the Percentage Points Calculator before you repeat a headline's mistake. And if money earns money across years, compounding will beat any flat percentage — that is the Compound Interest Calculator's job.
Problem: a course grade sheet says the project is worth 17.5% and the project scored 64 points. What does it contribute?
Both routes agree, so the 17.5 weight is safe to work with. If they had disagreed, the most likely cause would be a typo in the percentage field, such as 1.75 instead of 17.5.
These use a whole of 480 — a common figure for working hours in a month — so you can sense-check mental arithmetic:
| Percentage of 480 | Result |
|---|---|
| 5% | 24 |
| 10% | 48 |
| 12.5% | 60 |
| 17.5% | 84 |
| 20% | 96 |
| 25% | 120 |
| 50% | 240 |
Notice the pattern: 25% is exactly half of 50%, and 12.5% is an eighth. Percentages reinforce each other once you can build them from 10%.
Move the decimal point one place to the left. For example, 10% of 250 is 25.
Yes. Enter values such as 7.5 or 12.25 in either field.
240 × 0.15 = 36. Enter 240 as the number and 15 as the percentage, and the tool performs the same product.
The gap is 39, and 39 ÷ 260 × 100 = 15%. As a relative change it is 15%; spoken in points, the two levels are 39 apart.
45 ÷ 320 × 100 = 14.06%, which rounds to 14.1%. The base (320) always goes in the denominator.
Multiply by 100: 0.045 = 4.5%. The rule of two decimal places to the right applies to negative decimals too.
