Count the working days (Monday to Friday) between two dates, with both dates included. Public holidays are not excluded.
Choose a start and an end date. Both dates are included when they fall on a weekday.
Working days = calendar days − weekend days
2026 has 261 weekdays from 1 January to 31 December, before subtracting public holidays.
The result is the number of weekdays, with the total calendar days and the weekend days shown for reference.
Forgetting public holidays. The tool counts Monday to Friday only, so subtract any holidays in your country yourself.
Delivery promises, notice periods, project plans and legal deadlines all run on working days, and calendars are full of traps for counting them by hand: months that straddle weekends, holidays inside the window, endpoints that are themselves Saturdays. This page counts Monday to Friday between two dates, both endpoints included when they are themselves weekdays. It deliberately does not subtract public holidays, because those are national or regional facts the tool cannot know; what it guarantees is the five-day-week scaffolding every calendar counts on.
Inclusive counting is the convention to understand before anything else: from Tuesday the 6th to Thursday the 8th is 3 working days, because the Wednesday counts and so do both endpoints. A full Monday to Friday week is 5, a fortnight is 10, and the tool reports the calendar days and weekend days behind the answer so you can audit it.
Problem: a subcontractor starts Monday 5 January 2026 and hands over Friday 30 January 2026. How many working days does the contract calendar show, and how much of January is that?
Both answers are useful independently: 20 is what the subcontractor's job tracker should accrue, 22 is what a monthly payroll calendar would bill, and the 2-day gap is exactly the start-and-end half-weeks the month view absorbs.
| Period | Working days | Note |
|---|---|---|
| January 2026 | 22 | Starts Thursday, ends Saturday |
| February 2026 | 20 | 28 days, four full weekends |
| March 2026 | 22 | Starts Sunday, ends Tuesday |
| April 2026 | 22 | 30 days, four full weekends |
| Full year 2026 | 261 | Before public holidays |
261 is the number worth memorising because it anchors so many estimates: a 15-working-day SLA is roughly three real weeks only when no holidays fall inside. After your country's fixed-date holidays (which cluster in spring and December), the true available figure for many offices is 250–255 — and that small subtraction changes delivery promises materially.
Three real clauses use this count. A 10-working-day notice period from a Friday means the notice ends on the Friday two weeks later, not the calendar Friday after 10 days (which is a Tuesday). A 5-working-day payment term from an invoice dated on the 28th can straddle two months. A 15-working-day delivery promise made on a Thursday before a holiday Monday is a different promise than the same words on a normal Monday. Each clause reads differently to each party; the inclusive convention plus your local holidays is what makes them end in the same meeting room.
No. Holidays vary by country and region, so subtract them yourself.
Yes. The start and end dates are included if they fall on weekdays.
22: the month starts on a Thursday and holds five Saturdays and four Sundays. The full year 2026 counts 261 working days before public holidays.
No — it counts Monday to Friday only, both endpoints included. Subtract your own country's holidays before promising anything date-based.
Both endpoint weekdays count: Tuesday the 6th to Thursday the 8th is 3 working days, and Monday 5th to Friday 30th January 2026 is 20.
Ten working days span 12 or more calendar days, depending on where the week boundaries land; the tool's weekend-days line shows exactly where the extra days went.
