Find out how much to save each month to reach your savings target by a chosen date. Free savings goal calculator.

Find out how much to save each month to reach a savings target by a chosen date. Enter the target, what you have already saved and the number of months.
Enter your target, what you already have and how many months you have. The tool divides the remaining amount by the number of months.
Monthly saving = (target − current savings) ÷ months
To reach 10,000 from 1,500 in 12 months, save about 708.33 per month.
The figure is the monthly amount you need to set aside. If it feels too high, lengthen the period and run the tool again to see how the amount changes.
Forgetting that this tool ignores interest. If your money earns a return, you will need to save slightly less each month.
This calculator answers one stubborn question: how much do I need to put aside per month to hit my goal on time? It divides the remaining distance — target minus what you already have — by the months left, and prints a flat monthly commitment. The honesty of the result depends entirely on your two numbers being real: a target from an actual price quote, and a "current savings" figure you can defend on a bank statement, not the sum of half-forgotten intentions.
What the number deliberately excludes: interest your money may earn along the way. That makes the result a conservative baseline — earning nothing and still landing on the goal. If a return of a few percent is realistic, the Savings Growth Calculator models interest + monthly deposits together and typically shows you a smaller required deposit. Keep the two tools in that order: plain plan first, credited plan second, never the other way round when you are writing a budget you intend to keep.
Problem: an equipment goal of 6,000, already saved 2,250, deadline in 8 months.
If the target already sits in your account, the tool returns 0 per month — a real answer, not an error — and the honest next move is usually raising the target or moving the date closer rather than re-running old numbers.
| Deadline | Needed per month | Cumulative view |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months | 625.00 | fast, zero slack |
| 8 months | 468.75 | the worked example |
| 10 months | 375.00 | room for one bad month |
| 12 months | 312.50 | a 31-day month is fine |
| 18 months | 208.33 | breezy, but temptations grow |
Halving the deadline means doubling the monthly figure only at full numbers; with distances like 3,750 the trade is exact and linear, which is the point of showing the table.
A monthly figure is only credible when the calendar that produced it matches your income. If you are paid weekly, translate the plan once and live in that frame: 468.75 a month is around 108 a week on a steady rhythm — a shape most bank accounts tolerate better than a large end-month squeeze. Make the review a standing date: once a month, compare the real balance to the plan, because a plan behind schedule does not catch up by itself — whatever shortfall remains simply divides across the remaining months, and the new figure is usually bigger than the one you started with.
The page also processes target movements cheaply: if the goal price drops 5% (6,000 becomes 5,700), the monthly need falls with it — (5,700 − 2,250) ÷ 8 = 431.25 — so re-run the tool the moment a quote improves rather than averaging intentions. And resist fiddling with the "current savings" figure: it is the one pot you can point at on a bank statement; double-counting it shrinks every monthly number and quietly postpones the honest arithmetic. When returns may matter over longer horizons, graduate to the Savings Growth Calculator and compare its required deposits with this page's plain division — the gap between the two tells you exactly what the interest is buying you.
No. It assumes no returns, so interest would reduce the amount you need to put aside.
The calculator shows 0 per month.
The remaining 3,750 ÷ 10 = 375 per month.
Spread the unpaid amount over the remaining months: skipping 375 with five months left adds 75 to each of them.
No. The monthly figure depends on the number of months, so settle the date first and the required amount follows immediately.
