Yearly pay = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year
25 per hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = 52,000 per year, or about 4,333.33 per month.
You get the yearly pay, the monthly average, the weekly total and the daily amount for a five-day week. All figures are before tax.
Using 52 weeks if you are not paid for holidays or unpaid leave. Reduce the weeks to match what you really earn.
An hourly wage hides its yearly size behind small conversation units: "25 an hour" says nothing about unpaid leave, weeks actually worked or the monthly bank figure. This page multiplies rate × hours × weeks and decomposes the result into the four natural pay periods — yearly, monthly (yearly ÷ 12), weekly (rate × hours) and per day (a five-day week). It also prints the per-day and per-week figures so that budgeting conversations — rent, insurance, savings — can happen in the unit the bill arrives in.
The weekly figure is the honest anchor: 25 an hour at 40 hours is 1,000 a week, and the yearly 52,000 is just that anchor times 52. Monthly at 4,333.33 is a pure arithmetic artefact (yearly ÷ 12), not a promise that any month actually brings 4,333.33 — real months have different weekly counts, and the yearly figure is the one that survives.
Problem: a colleague earns 25 an hour, works 40 hours a week, and is paid for all 52 weeks. Then a second case: a part-timer at 18 an hour, 37.5 hours a week, 50 weeks a year. How do their years compare?
The gap — 52,000 against 33,750 — is 54.1% more for the first case, and the decomposition shows exactly where it comes from: both the rate (+38.9%, 25 against 18) and the annual hours (+37.4%, 2,080 against 1,875) run higher. Job-offer comparisons live and die at exactly this dissection, not at the headline rate.
Unpaid leave, sabbaticals and term-time contracts all reduce weeks. For the 25-an-hour, 40-hour role:
| Weeks paid | Yearly | Monthly average |
|---|---|---|
| 52 | 52,000 | 4,333.33 |
| 48 | 48,000 | 4,000.00 |
| 44 | 44,000 | 3,666.67 |
| 40 | 40,000 | 3,333.33 |
| 24 | 24,000 | 2,000.00 |
The pattern is linear — every unpaid week costs exactly 1,000 — which is why the weeks field deserves more respect than it usually gets. A 46-week job at a higher nominal wage can lose to a 52-week job at a lower one.
The same identity reads in reverse: a salaried 52,000 at 40 hours over 52 weeks is 25 an hour, and any salary divided by (hours × weeks) returns the hourly equivalent. That reverse is how you compare a fixed salary against hourly offers with different hours or weeks — and why the tool's three inputs are the exact minimum contract details worth knowing before signing anything: not just the rate, but the weeks and hours it assumes.
Before tax. It is your gross pay, so deductions will reduce what you take home.
Reduce the weeks per year to the number of weeks you are actually paid.
25 × 40 × 52 = 52,000 a year — 1,000 a week, 200 a day, and 4,333.33 a month as the simple yearly ÷ 12 average.
Divide by hours × weeks: a 52,000 salary at 40 hours over 52 weeks is 25 an hour. Rate, hours and weeks are the three ingredients every comparison needs.
Exactly one weekly pay: at 25 an hour and 40 hours, four unpaid weeks drop the year from 52,000 to 48,000 — a whole month of headline pay.
It is an average (52,000 ÷ 12 = 4,333.33). Real months hold four or five pay weeks, so plan cash flow from the weekly or yearly figure.
